Communicating food for health benefits: international workshop

The Department of Communication Studies at Universitat Rovira i Virgili has launched the details on the International workshop ‘Communicating food for health benefits’, to be hold in Tarragona (Spain) next 8-9th November 2012. The seminar is focused in the study of how communication could improve institutional logics in food information. The event is particularly interested in exploring social networks and new experiences in delivering information about food to spread healthy practices among population.

Therefore, the sessions will be on identifying institutional needs to a better communicative practices, explore the European policy experiences and the social marketing framework as a productive tool, among other topics. The participants will also treat the new meanings of functional foods and the innovations in the food sector relating to communicative practices.

Among the speakers, the following will participate in the workshop: Laura Smillie (Acting Head of the Editorial and Media Relations Unit at European Food Safety Authorithy), Francesc Puiggròs (Scientific coordinator of Technological Center for Nutrition and Health), Aine McConnon (University College Dublin) or Julie Barnett (Brunel University).

The workshop will present some of the findings of the European project on Benefit and Risk Food Communication, in which the Department of Communication of URV is participating. The Catalan Journal of Communication and Cultural Studies will also present the CFP of the Special Issue 5.2 on “Communication and Food for Health Benefits. Negotiating meanings in networked times”.
